Akyla grew up in Evergreen Grove on the rougher side of town. Her father passed away when she was eight leaving her mother to take care of three children. She was devastated by her father's passing but learned to cope with it by writing in her journals. Akyla's older brothers were twins, and despite their large age gap she always enjoyed spending time with them. They would tease her and pick on her always claiming that it would toughen her up when she got older. She never understood it but she learned to love their quirky attitude and picked up on some of their jokes.

Growing up where she did, Akyla was frequently picked on. Bullies would push her around and make fun of her. When she came home from school one day with a black eye her mother knew enough was enough. At the age of twelve, her mother placed her in a karate class believing that her daughter should learn how to defend herself. At first, she struggled with it and believed that it was a waste of time. She soon developed the love for it and it made her confidence soar. She found her happy place and knew she wouldn't have any issues anymore while walking to school.

At the age of fifteen Akyla found her love for dancing and singing. She joined the cheer squad knowing she'd be able to express herself on top of calling out school spirit cheers. She loved being the center of attention and loved it when people would look her way. During her senior year in high school, she betrayed her best friend Amelia by sleeping with her boyfriend. At first, she kept it a secret but she was riddled with guilt and finally told her friend who called her names and stopped talking to her. Akyla broke it off with and told Chris they should no longer see each other because she couldn't look at him anymore without feeling the guilt.

After graduation Akyla had been out with her friends celebrating their newfound freedom before going to college. Sneaking into a bar everything was going smoothly, they were happily enjoying themselves until something happened. Something that Akyla refused to think about and remember. It was what drove her into the path of becoming a journalist. She wanted the world to know what was out there, what was really happening around their little town of Evergreen Grove. She runs a small blog with a few followers, but she hopes one day she will be able to gain a following and become a full-time newscaster.
